Mental Health

Mental health concerns are extremely prevalent in our society affecting many Canadians.   Often people do not receive adequate care for this area of their health and of the individuals who do seek treatment, many do not find significant relief from their symptoms.

Dr. Tanya addresses any physical imbalances in the body such as hormonal or nutritional deficiencies and diet and lifestyle factors that can contribute to your mental health.  It is important that these imbalances and factors are identified and corrected.  In additional to addressing physical imbalances, the psychological aspects of depression and anxiety are explored.  Often there are thought patterns and belief systems that perpetuate depression or anxiety.  Exploration of these patterns allows individuals to change them.

Naturopathic Medicine can be used effectively in conjunction with psychiatric medication.   Dr. Tanya does not recommend discontinuation of prescribed medications.  If you and your prescribing physician decide to decrease the dose or stop the medication, naturopathic medicine can be used to support you through this process.

Dr. Tanya comes has a strong family history of mental illness (Father had Bipolar disorder, Cousins and Uncles with Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder and other relatives with bulemia and addiction).  She understands how challenging it can be to live with mental illness and the stigma associated with it.  Dr. Tanya does not judge in any way, she just wants you to get the proper help for your condition which often involves co-treatment with other health care providers such as psychologists and psychiatrists.
