Intravenous Nutrient Therapy

Intravenous Nutrient Therapy

Intravenous nutrient therapy

IV nutrient therapy is the process of giving vital nutrients to the body via the bloodstream by accessing the vein with a small needle. The nutrients can be a small amount that is pushed in slowly with a syringe over 5 to 15 minutes or a larger quantity in an IV bag that is dripped in slowly over 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the solution being given. The advantage is that 100% of the nutrients injected reach their target organ and tissue, as they bypass the digestive tract. The absorption of anything ingested orally (by mouth), depends on the integrity of the digestive tract; if there are any digestive problems ( IBS, Crohn’s Disease, Gastritis, Ulcers, Colitis, Chronic Diarrhea, Celiac, Food Intolerances, etc.) the rate of nutrient absobtion is greatly diminished, leading in time to severe nutritional deficiencies. Mineral deficiencies are epidemic now also due to food processing and the gradual demineralization of the soil from modern agricultural practices. Depleted soils, combined with poor dietary choices, often create a nutritional wasteland and an inefficient digestive system. People often need intravenous IVs until the gut heals.

IV therapy can be used in situations where we need to supplement vitamins, minerals, amino-acids, botanicals, in order to achieve a therapeutic goal, or if we need to nourish organs and tissues in a more efficient and rapid manner. A deficit of nutrients, or the state of toxicity/oxidation in the body, can be assessed through various laboratory testing, readily available at our office. The results can add valuable information to the therapeutic management of the health issues that patients present with, such as, but not limited to: low immunity, fatigue, insomnia, pain from inflammatory conditions (arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia), diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart conditions, increased blood pressure, accelerated aging conditions, cancer, skin disorders, premature aging of the skin (wrinkles, dehydration), muscle pains, hormonal dysfunctions  (low libido, erectile dysfunction, menopause and andropause).

All the IV therapies are patient customized, to have condition specific therapeutic effects.

One of the most widely used IV therapies is High Level Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid).  Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants in the body as it protects the body against the formation of damaging free radicals, reduces cholesterol, reduces blood pressure, supports the immune system, increases cardiac performance, supports detoxification pathways, aids in the formation of neurotransmitters and can be used to make chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer more effective.  It’s important to know that IV-vitamins and naturopathic medicine should never be used to replace conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.  It’s also essential to discuss this option with your oncologist if you plan to use IV-Vitamin therapy in-conjunction with chemo/radiation.  Vitamin C is an anti-allergic, supports collagen formation, supports normal hormonal formation and functioning, has an anti-stress effect and it is a natural laxative.

Another popular IV is the Myer’s Cocktail, an intravenous vitamin and mineral protocol developed by Dr. John Myer at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. It contains a combination of Vitamin B complex, Calcium, Magnesium and Vit. C. Meyer’s Cocktail has been used to address upper respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, seasonal allergies, migraines, fibromyalgia, cardiovascular disease, depression, muscle spasms.

Dr. Tanya does not personally do IV therapy but she refers patients who she knows will benefit from this therapy to her associate Dr. Jason Granzotto, ND.  Please click HERE to learn more about Dr. Jason, ND.
