Dr. Tanya Wylde, BSc (Hons.), ND

Tanya Wylde, BSc (Hons.), ND

Tanya is in her twelfth year practicing as a registered naturopathic doctor in Vaughan, Ontario.  As of January 2018 she will be working part-time in Woodbridge, Vaughan Ontario and part-time in Brooklin, Whitby Ontario.  Over the last twelve years, she has been fortunate to have an extremely busy practice and has been able to work with thousands of people seeking optimal health.   She is committed to health education and empowering her patients with the most current information on health topics and natural medicine therapies.

Tanya has a strong interest in treating hormone imbalances (women’s and men’s), polycystic ovarian syndrome, weight problems, type 2 diabetes, fertility issues, pregnancy concerns, natural labour, lactation and healthy child development.  Being an avid runner and mixed martial artist she also really appreciates working with athletes to help improve their performance naturally.  Additionally, she enjoys helping people with no particular health concerns that are simply looking to be proactive and age gracefully by keeping a healthy lifestyle and supplementing appropriately.  Since being certified as a First Line Therapy practitioner in 2006 she has had a great deal of experience and success in guiding overweight patients through a healthy weight reduction program that focuses on optimal nutrient status, nutrition and exercise. With her keen interest in nutrition as the foundation of her naturopathic therapies she came to realize the importance of breastfeeding.  She committed herself to many hours of additional training in Breast Feeding Consultation with Dr. Jack Newman (pediatrician and Ontario’s finest specialist in Lactation).  She has helped many patients in her private practice (spending over 1,000 hours) with lactation complications using natural medicine and techniques taught by Dr. Newman.   Tanya has been blessed with the personal experience of nursing her son for two and a half years and now her daughter for 12 months which she continues to enjoy wholeheartedly.  She has also been attending labours since 2004 as a Doula and is very well versed in supporting pregnant mom’s in natural labour.  She is proud of the birthing experiences she had when her son was born in March 2013 and her daughter who was born September 2016 with a midwife and a doula present, which was free of any medical intervention, (meaning no inductions, membrane rupture, epidural etc).  She hopes that with her extensive experience as a doula and her personal experience she can guide all of her pregnant patients through a natural, enjoyable, intervention-free and healthy birthing experience (labour).

Tanya incorporates Nutrition, Orthomolecular Medicine, Botanical Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, and Fitness consults into her treatment plans depending on the chief concern/health condition.  Due to her previous experience as a personal trainer and fitness instructor she is a strong motivator.  It is her goal to uncover the root cause(s) of each patient’s unique illness and she is committed to supporting rather than suppressing the body’s innate ability to heal.  It is important to note that she believes that conventional doctors play an important role in her patient’s health and well-being and she encourages all of her patients to inform their medical doctors and specialists of the treatments they undergo with her.  She may also refer you to other health care practitioners to help you on your journey to optimal health.  Click HERE for a list of some of Dr. Wylde’s common referrals.

She is a registered naturopathic doctor and member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors, the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, and the Association of Perinatal Naturopathic Doctors.

After graduating with honours from the University of Waterloo in 2000 with a 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences, she completed 4 years of Naturopathic Medical training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Toronto), Canada’s only accredited Naturopathic College.  She graduated from CCNM in 2005.

Continuing Education is a priority for Tanya.  Each year she continues her professional development in a wide variety of topics including but not limited to fitness, weight loss, perinatal health, fertility, PCOS, hormones and acupuncture.  She has additional training in Lactation, Fertility, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Bio-identical hormone therapy, Weight Loss, Acupuncture for both men and women with fertility issues and Acupuncture in pregnancy.  She is a First Line Therapy Certified TM Weight Loss Practitioner.  As a woman with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome herself, and history of sub-fertility she’s extremely passionate about health education for women with these conditions.

Dr. Wylde, ND recently co-authored a book on infertility with reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Timea Belej Rak, MD and 6 other experts; called “Embrace your Fertility, Empowering you with tools to help you succeed”.  Dr. Wylde’s chapter “Naturopathic Perspectives” includes an amazing patient story and how they were able to conceive naturally after a failed IVF attempt with the support of naturopathic medicine and her help in finding the correct diagnosis.  In her chapter she writes about the most effective tools (specific supplements, exercise, nutrition and mind-body support) for infertility and the most up to date evidence based research on naturopathic medicine for infertility.  Dr. Wylde understands how difficult the infertility journey can be having gone through it herself.  She hopes that by being apart of this project that she can help the population of sub-fertile individuals on a larger scale by giving them some solid advice and support. Tanya was raised by a very proactive single mother who brought all three of her children to a naturopathic doctor, chiropractor and massage therapist from a very early age in order to prevent illness and address acute health concerns as naturally as possible.  Her mother of course would bring her and her siblings to a conventional medical doctor as needed but this was very rare.  Tanya and her siblings were raised vegan and then vegetarian. Tanya was a very sporty child playing soccer and basketball.  She was a lifeguard, swim instructor, personal trainer and fitness instructor for years which brought out the teacher and motivator in her.  Tanya knew from a young age (16) that she wanted to be a doctor and she chose to become a naturopathic doctor  because this system of medicine worked for her and her family and it made the most sense to her.  In addition to being sporty, Tanya was very studious and self-motivated.  If anything, her mother would have to ask her to stop studying and encourage her to have more balance in life.  She graduated with honours from every school she ever graduated from (from elementary through university and medical school).  This work ethic has carried on into her naturopathic medical practice which is likely why she has been successful helping so many people.  Helping people to successfully restore their health is what brings her great joy and keeps her motivated.  Tanya now finds her own balance in her family life and sports/fitness.  She is married to her very patient and supportive husband (who is also a naturopathic doctor, environmental engineer and has his masters in public health) and they have a beautiful 4 year old son, 10 month old daughter, and a 5 year old female whippet (dog).  As a family they enjoy hiking in all forms of weather, eating unprocessed clean organic foods (she is no longer a vegetarian).  Her and her husband dance (lindy hop and rockabilly) and remain active with cross fit and mixed martial arts (boxing/kickboxing).  They also enjoy treating themselves once in a while to an oatmeal stout or a fruity mead.

Tanya, like her brother, Bryce Wylde (previous show host of CP24’s “Wylde on Health” and working at P3 health) is passionate about educating the public on evidence based integrative medicine and motivating the public to get healthy via Television, electronic and print media.  CLICK HERE to see Dr. Tanya Wylde on TV.
